Deep-Diving in Singapore

What could be more fun than just deep diving in one of the biggest International Schools in Singapore?

It wasn't an ordinary "Diving" as we all are not under water at all. It was merely our passion who put us there, with other passionate teachers, trying to figure it out "how am I gonna change the world with my lessons?"

Well, this could be an opportunity for everyone who wants to learn and upgrade his teachings with the revolutionised teaching tools.

It was started with a BANG!
We were given a GOOGLE Cardboard we have to figure it out ourselves on how to install it with our smartphone attached to it. It was for me as I have seen and used one of those before, but for the many it was quite challenge knowing it didn't come with a manual :)
The Virtual Reality was such an experience everyone looking up forward to recently. We are wondering what it can do and till what extent this product is going to entertain us.

Well, Deep Learners could get more update on that, as some educators already found some ways on how to infuse VR to their lessons. As for the greater news, they shared with us on the 2-day Deep Learning Workshop!

I was so excited to attend some of the classes that have already been intriguing me since I received an email about the workshop.

Early Programming for Grade 1 & 2 students??!!
I mean how could that even possible? Well, I have to admit I was impressed.

The teacher, Mr. Wayne, really made me realise technology is making everything possible.
When he sharing with us this App, Scratch Jr., I could not stop myself from using it. All the more if I can start giving this to my students, I would not dare to imagine if they would ever want to stop :)

Digital Citizenship class raised my awareness on the issues those students everyday are facing when they go online. It made me realise, as a technology teacher, it is my responsibility to wide open the eyes of other teachers, parents and school management about this matter. I hope I could start running some programs endorsing all of us at SLI to be more aware in this matter.

One other thing that caught my eyes, was when I learnt about Touchcast. It's an App that exposes and simplifies the work on green screen in movie industry. I was astonished when I started to see how it works as it was very easy, yet the result was awesome!
I mean what's better than embedding photos, links, even a whiteboard on your running video with a background of your choice??!

I made that video roughly in 5 minutes.

I can't wait to start modifying my curriculum and involving those tools in my class. I'm sure students can't wait to start their own production once I showed them this amazing App.

I was attracted with "flipping your classroom" class, as that might be the answer of my long lost question about motivating the students and involving technology more on some of my instructional lessons. There I learnt about having some of my lessons recorded and getting them discuss about the lesson online. The point of success here is on how to buy students for doing this. How to get them all well-motivated and actively join the discussion is definitely what we need to answer and prepare initially.

Tell..Teach..Trust

The amazing race class made me realise how powerful tools provided by Google already are. Google Form, Docs, Sheets and Maps are some of those we were exposed with during the class. It is mazing to see how those tools can be related one to another to create the best Gamification in teaching-learning process.

Badging can be another tools to gamify your class. Why, you ask? because we are teaching in the 21st century, where students are more critical than ever, and never forget the fact they are exposed to digital game too much nowadays and therefore got engaged easily when you involve game in you class.

Every the end of the day, we were gathered to find out the winners of Social Media activities. I was lucky enough to be one of the winners! "Most Excitement For Learning Award" Wow! Thanks guys!

with awesome educators at DEEP Learning 2015

In the end, I just want to say thank you for the invitation to this amazing event! You made me learn a lot in two days and I definitely will share the good news with everyone at SLI. My students will benefit a lot thanks to all the learnings you made possible.
It's a great reminder for me to always "be the yardstick of quality" in whatever we do!

Warmest regards from Jakarta, Indonesia.
